MY BANANA'S GONE BANANAS.

When we moved into our house a few years ago, there were already banana trees in the yard.  We cleared out those that looked mangy but kept the rest.  They give the yard a lush, tropical look and feel and they reproduce without us doing anything.  Last year, one of them flowered with this odd red flower shaped like an ear of corn.  It opened downward, like a fuschia, and lasted for months--the hummingbirds loved it.  But yes, it had no bananas.  Yesterday, I saw the same flower on a different plant and figured no bananas either.  Then I looked again and there were no just one, but two bunches of bananas.  My husband says they're Cavendish.  I say they're small and green and we'll see what they'll become.  Bananas in our backyard.  Another reason We Love Escondido.  See you tomorrow.(I played around with color in the photo at the top.  The smaller one is the real colors.)
